Seall

Terms of use

Last updated: 16 October 2026

Please read section 2. Seall helps you choose where to go, but it can't see the cliff edge, the tide or the farmer's gate. Conditions change fast in Scotland. You are responsible for your own safety, for anyone with you, and for making sure you are allowed to be where you go.

1. About these terms

These terms apply when you use the Seall app. Seall is made by BHIK Studios Ltd, trading as SYNF, a company registered in Scotland (company number SC670511) with its registered office at 1 Cambuslang Court, Cambuslang, Glasgow G32 8FH. "We" and "us" mean BHIK Studios Ltd.

You agree to these terms when you tick the box on the welcome screen. If you got Seall from the App Store, Apple's standard licence terms for apps also apply. If you got it from Google Play, the Google Play terms also apply. If those terms and these terms disagree, these terms win as far as the law allows.

2. Staying safe

Scores and details are estimates

Tonight scores, darkness times, aurora chances, midge levels, walk-in distances, parking details, overnight rules and directions come from public data and computer models. They can be wrong, out of date or missing. A high score does not mean a place is safe to visit. Always check the real conditions yourself before you set off and while you are out.

The outdoors is dangerous

Cliffs, sea stacks, beaches, mountains, rivers, bogs and remote glens can injure or kill, and the risk is higher in the dark or in bad weather. Tides come in fast and cliff edges can give way. If you are not sure it is safe, do not go.

Come prepared

Carry a paper map and compass, a torch, warm waterproof layers, food and water. Tell someone where you are going and when you will be back. Phone signal is often missing across the Highlands and islands. In an emergency call 999 or 112 and ask for the police (for mountain rescue) or the coastguard. You can register your phone for emergency text messages at emergencysms.net.

Private land and access

Some places shown in Seall are on private land, farmland or estates, and some may be closed, fenced or restricted at certain times, for example during lambing, deer stalking or bird nesting seasons. A place appearing in Seall does not mean you have permission to go there or to park, camp or stay overnight there.

Scotland's access rights let you walk on most land if you act responsibly. They do not cover driving or parking on private land, and they do not cover buildings or the land around houses. Follow the Scottish Outdoor Access Code, obey local signs, leave gates as you find them, keep dogs under control near livestock and wildlife, and take your litter home.

On the road

Take care on single-track roads, especially at night. Use passing places to let others pass and never park in them. Do not block gates, field entrances or access roads. Only stay overnight in a vehicle where it is allowed, and check the rules on the day.

Wildlife

Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed. Keep your distance and do not disturb animals or their homes. Disturbing some nesting birds and other protected species is a crime in Scotland.

3. Your responsibility

You are responsible for your own safety and for anyone with you, including children. You decide whether, when and how to visit a place, and you are responsible for checking you are allowed to be there.

4. Using the app

We give you a personal, non-exclusive licence to use Seall on devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial use. Please do not:

The Seall name, seal logo, design and our own written content belong to us. The map, place and weather data come from the open data sources credited in the app's About screen and on our website, under their own licences.

5. Seall Pro (coming soon)

Seall is free. We plan to offer Seall Pro, a one-off purchase that adds alerts and a home screen widget. It will never be a subscription, and the Tonight score and offline map will stay free.

When Pro is available you will buy it through the App Store or Google Play, and refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their rules. If Pro does not work as described, contact us and we will help. This does not affect your legal rights as a consumer.

6. Changes and availability

We work to keep Seall accurate and running, but we cannot promise it will always be available, free of errors, or that every feature will stay the same. Some features rely on outside services, such as weather forecasts, which may stop or change. We may update the app, change features, or stop offering it.

Links in the app open other websites and apps, such as Google Maps, tide tables and historic records. We are not responsible for their content.

7. Our liability

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that the law does not allow us to limit or exclude. Your legal rights as a consumer are not affected.

Apart from that, and as far as the law allows:

8. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms, for example when we add Seall Pro or new features. We will change the date at the top of this page. If a change is important, we will ask you to agree again in the app.

9. Law

These terms are governed by the law of Scotland. If you have a dispute with us, you can take it to the Scottish courts. If you live elsewhere in the UK, you can also use the courts where you live.
