Seall

Privacy policy

Last updated: 23 October 2026

The short version. Seall has no accounts, no ads and no tracking. Your location stays on your phone. Your favourites and settings are saved on your phone and we never see them. To show tonight's forecast, the app asks weather and space-weather services for data about the places you look at, and those services see your IP address like any website would.

Who we are

Seall is made by BHIK Studios Ltd, trading as SYNF. We are a company registered in Scotland (company number SC670511) with our registered office at 1 Cambuslang Court, Cambuslang, Glasgow G32 8FH.

We are the controller for the personal data described in this policy. You can contact us about privacy at [email protected].

This policy covers the Seall app for iPhone and Android and the website at seall.app.

Your location

Seall asks to use your location only while the app is open, and only after you tap "Enable location". You can say no and still use every part of the app.

If you allow it, Seall uses your location on your phone to sort places by distance and to move the map to where you are. Your location is not sent to us or to anyone else, and it is not stored.

You can turn location access off at any time in your phone's settings.

What is saved on your phone

Seall keeps a small database on your phone with:

We cannot see any of this. It never leaves your phone, except that your phone's own backup (for example iCloud or Google backup) may include it, under your agreement with Apple or Google. Deleting the app deletes this data.

Services the app talks to

Some features need an internet connection. Weather forecasts and offline map downloads come from SYNF's own servers. For everything else your phone connects directly to the services below.

Like any website, each service, ours included, can see your IP address and basic details of the request, such as the time and your phone's software version. We use these only to run our servers and protect them from abuse. The other services are independent organisations with their own privacy policies.

ServiceWhat it is forWhat is sent
SYNF weather service (seall-api.synf.co.uk, UK)Weather forecasts for the Tonight score and midge meter. Our service gets them from Open-Meteo (Switzerland). The centre of the roughly 10 km square around the place you are looking at. This is the place's area, not your position. Open-Meteo receives only that square from our service, never your IP address.
SYNF map downloads (seall-maps.synf.co.uk, UK)Offline map packs you choose to downloadNo position. Only the name of the region you download.
NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center (USA)Aurora forecastNo position. The app downloads the whole forecast and works out each spot's chance on your phone.
CelesTrak (USA)Space station orbit data for the Nights tabNo position. Passes are worked out on your phone.
Wikimedia Commons (USA)Photos of placesThe name of the photo file being loaded.

When you tap a link in the app, such as Directions, a tide table or a historic record, it opens in another app or your web browser. What happens next is covered by that service's own privacy policy. Directions open in Google Maps (the app if you have it, otherwise the Google Maps website), which receives the place you are going to.

What we do not do

Install numbers and crash reports

Apple and Google give every app developer basic statistics, such as how many people installed the app, in which countries, and on which devices. If you have agreed in your phone's settings to share analytics with app developers, they also pass on crash reports. These come to us grouped together or without your name, and we use them to fix bugs and understand how many people use Seall. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in keeping the app working. You can switch this sharing off in your phone's privacy settings.

Buying Seall Pro (coming soon)

Seall Pro will be a one-off purchase made through the App Store or Google Play. Apple or Google handles the payment. We never see your card details, name or address. The app only learns that Pro has been bought on your store account so it can unlock it.

When you email us

If you email [email protected], we receive your email address, your name if you include it, and what you write. Cloudflare passes the email on to our mailbox, which Google hosts. We use this only to reply and to fix any problem you report, for example a wrong car park. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in answering you. We keep support emails for two years after the conversation ends and then delete them.

The website

seall.app does not use cookies for tracking, analytics tools, advertising, or fonts and scripts from other companies.

The site is delivered by Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes your IP address and request details to deliver pages and to block attacks, and it may set a strictly necessary security cookie to tell people from bots. We use this only to run and protect the site.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to ask for a copy of your data, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to or restrict how we use it, and to receive it in a portable format. For most people we hold no personal data at all, because the app keeps everything on your phone. If you have emailed us, we can find and delete those emails.
